As each new year approaches, we look for ways to give ourselves a fresh start. We ask ourselves: “What habits can I build to make my life better, healthier, and more successful in the year ahead?”
For many of us, the answer to that question includes focusing on improving our health and wellness. In addition to the standards like healthy eating, exercise, and starting a meditation practice, we’d like to encourage you to give some focus to reinvigorating your cleaning routines, and more specifically, your disinfecting routines. A strong disinfection game can truly be the difference in staying healthy and getting sick.
So, here are three tips we recommend incorporating into your cleaning practice in the new year:
- Build a routine that works for you. Even if it’s just once a week, spending time clearing your clutter, vacuuming, and disinfecting your surfaces and air can drastically boost your mood and health. If you are a morning person, dedicate 30 minutes each week to this routine… and pop on your favorite music or podcast to make it enjoyable.
- Keep the right cleaning tools on hand. Each month, take stock of your cleaning cabinet: Running low on wood polish or toilet bowl cleaner? Try to anticipate what’s needed for your next cleaning session so that you are fully stocked in advance and can’t use missing supplies as an excuse not to clean.
- Lastly, spend a little time learning about the difference between cleaning and disinfecting. Wiping down surfaces might appear to be doing the job, but really it’s only taking care of one half of it. Many people might not realize conventional disinfecting wipes need to leave surfaces visibly wet for several minutes in order to properly eliminate germs. Plus, disinfecting requires specific types of cleaning products (such as bleach)–without them, you cannot eliminate germs, pathogens, and viruses. Some of those disinfectants are pretty harsh, which is where Beacon comes in. It can help disinfect your surfaces AND air without harsh chemicals.
From the entire Beacon team, we wish you a very happy and healthy new year!
